Packing Your Bike

  • How should I pack and disassemble my bike?

We strongly recommend taking your bike to a qualified bike mechanic to be packed. Having your bike professionally packed will minimize risk of damage due to improper disassembly.

Remember to place markings on your bike with tape or other material to note seat post height, handle bar and aero positions, and any other positioning necessary for proper fit. These markings will help TriBike reassemble your bike appropriately.

You may use your own bike box. Or, a bike shop may be able to pack your bike in a cardboard bike box along with appropriate packing materials. Contact your local bike shop directly for a disassembly price quote.

Please note: Oversized boxes may incur a large package surcharge directly from UPS. See "How do I figure out if my bike is oversized?" below for details.

  • Do I have take my bike to a TriBike partner shop for disassembly?

We recommend utilizing TriBike Transport partner shops because we know they employ qualified mechanics and provide trustworthy service. However, you may have your bike disassembled at the bike shop of your choice.

  • Will TriBike provide me with a box?

TriBike does not provide boxes or initial packaging. You are responsible for the initial packing and boxing of your bike.

  • How much disassembly is necessary to pack my bike?

The level of disassembly depends on what type of box you choose for transporting your bike. Generally, the wheels, pedals, seat post, handlebars are removed. The bike will be sufficiently padded for protection and to prevent movement.

  • How do I figure out if my bike box is oversized?

Use the following formula to determine the size of your box:
    [(2 x width) + (2 x height)]
If the total exceeds 130 inches (330cm), the box is oversized.

Per UPS: "A Large Package Surcharge will be applied to each UPS package when its length plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined exceeds 130 inches (330cm), but does not exceed the maximum UPS size of 165 inches (419cm)."

Oversized packages are subject to a $57.50 surcharge each way. This means you may be charged $115 for a round-trip Pack & Ship reservation.
