How did you get started in the sport of triathlon?
I found triathlon the week I graduated from college in 2000. I grew up running and swimming and I thought I would give riding a bike a whirl. I decided to use my college graduation money to buy my first TT bike and I entered my first triathlon, an ironman distance, 2 weeks later! It’s been a decade later and I am still enjoying the ironman journey.
What’s your favorite time of day to train and why?
I am happy training ANY particular time of the day that allows. I especially enjoy the evenings that I teach at Velo|SF (computrainer cycling classes) as there is nothing better than “commeraderie ” in a group setting. The energy to become better athletes as a team is rewarding and the satisfaction of helping others is priceless.

After overcoming losing my vision, I began to seek out new challenges starting with swimming and cross-country running. From there the sport of triathlon seemed like a natural fit.
What is your favorite post-race meal?
For some reason after races I crave a big fat burger and fries
Who are the athletes or people who inspire you?
I’m inspired by Matt Miller, the founder of the C Different Foundation, and also my guides who have selflessly, graciously provided me with the opportunity to race at the highest level by guiding me and lending me their vision and time.
Please tell us about your most embarrassing race moment and/or most proud moment.
My most embarrassing race moment was when I was at the ITU ParaTriathlon in London and I got separated from my guide and I swam so far away from the pack I had to yell to the guys in the kyak, “Where do I go??”
My most proud moment was at the 2009 Foster Grant Ironman 70.3 Championship in Clearwater when I crushed my previous 70.3 PR and going 4:18.
